Slow Food takes a culinary tour of the Silk Road via Georgia

19.09.2012. Slow food is taking a journey along the Silk Road on October 25 to 29 at the Salone del Gusto and Terra Madre 2012  in Turin, Italy (read more more about Salone del Gusto and Terra Madre here).

Salone del Gusto, the biennial celebration of foods from around the world, is teaming up with Terra Madre to organize the five-day event, to celebrate international culinary diversity and promote small-scale farmers and artisans from around the world who follow the principles of good, clean, and fair.

The event includes a marketplace featuring nine countries between Caucasus and Central Asia to represent the Silk Road. Visitors can visit the nine stands, which feature food from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kirgizstan, Ukraine, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Georgia, and Uzbekistan.

Festival-goers can sample Georgian wine, which is fermented in terracotta jars, sample pamir mulberry, a food from the high mountains of Tajikistan, and almonds from Bostanlyk.

Some 250 American chefs, food producers, and advocates from the U.S. slow food movement are attending the annual event. The delegates, who were appointed by regional selection committees, are attending on behalf of their communities to discuss food and farming issues.
