
The conference was opened by Georgia's Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili and Taleb Rifai, Secretary-General of UNWTO, who addressed conference participants during dinner reception in Tbilisi.
"This is the biggest event in our country’s life in terms of cementing Georgia’s image as the world’s cradle of wine”, said Mr. Kvirikashvili.
The conference guests were entertained with Georgian traditional dancing and singing. Mr. Rifai made a toast for prosperity of Georgia and development of wine tourism industry in the country.
The first conference session will be held in Kakheti, where the guests will also visit the Alaverdi Monastery, famous for its wine, and Winery Khareba's "Wine Tunnel".
The working sessions will be opened by welcoming remarks by Georgia's minister of economy Dimitry Kumsishvili and UNWTO's Taleb Rifai.
The sessions will continue in Chateau Mukhrani on September 9.
