International Wine Challenge awards over 90 wines from Georgia

13.05.2018 (Hvino News). The results of "second tranche" of  annual International Wine Challenge (IWC) competition were announced recently in London.

The IWC has two separate tastings to accommodate the different production and sales schedules across the industry. Tranche 1 wines were tasted in November and Tranche 2 wines were tasted in April.

There are two medal release dates, with Tranche 1 results announced in December, where 7 wine companies from Georgia won 20 awards, including 1 gold, 8 silver, 6 bronze, 5 "Commended" awards: See Georgia won 20 awards at International Wine Challenge 2018

Results of Tranche 2 were become known in  May. The number of awarded Georgian wines has sharply increased to over 90.

In total, at International Wine Challenge 2018 Georgia won 5 gold, 25 silver, 37 bronze, and 27 "commended" awards. Over 20 Georgian wine companies were represented at the contest.

"Georgia has many indigenous grapes to choose from and can be rightly proud of its achievement this year", - reads the official IWC press release, - "The former Soviet Union state secured five Gold medals – for two reds, one white, and two amber wines. Within this were two impressively high scorers: JSC Teliani Valley Glekhuri Kisi 2015 and Makashvili Wine Cellar Mtsvane 2016 – both amber wines, both scoring a distinguished 96 points."
