Russia starts inspections of Georgian enterprises

26.02.2013 (Hvino News) A delegation from Russia starts inspections of Georgian winemakers and mineral water producers today. Russian specialists arrived in Georgia on Monday evening.

“From Tuesday the experts will start their work,” Georgian National Wine Agency's head Levan Davitashvili told Russian agency RIA Novosti.

Gennady Onishchenko, head of Russian consumer agency Rospotrebnadzor,  has previously said three groups of specialists had gone to Georgia to inspect 40 wine-making and four mineral water producing enterprises in Georgia.

The visiting Russian group inclided six representatives of Rospotrebnadzor They will separate into three sub-groups. They group already traveled to Kakheti Region and tasted qvevri wine at the Alaverdi Monastery.

"Russian consumers are waiting for Georgian wine on Russian market. They remember Georgian wine quite well and today, I think that the market will not only be open, but it is looking forward to the return of Georgian wine products there. On our side, we are trying to speed up the process. Currently, the relations between the two countries are not clarified, I mean some procedural-technical moments of the negotiations", - Natalia Romanova, the representative of the Agora Group told journalists.

Before the ban, Russia was the largest market for Georgian wines. Georgia is ready to supply 10 million bottles of wine to Russia annually, Levan Davitashvili previously said.
