Georgian Wine Week 2016 is launched

22.09.2016 (Hvino News). Today starts the Georgian Wine Week, organized by Georgia’s Ministry of Agriculture and National Wine Agency.

A number of events will be held throughout Georgia till October 2. Wine festivals will be held in Telavi and Marneuli, including wine contests and other activities.

The Week starts on September 22 with inauguration of the Qvevri Workshop School in Ikalto. The event includes a photo exhibition and award ceremony for the monastery wine. Simultaneously in Telavi, Georgian wines of different companies will be presented in street pavilions. Visitors will be able to taste the wine, Georgian sweets, and cheese.

September 23 in the Library of Vine and Wine (at Georgian National Library), exhibition and presentation of new books related to the Georgian viticulture is scheduled. The presentation will be lead by writer George Barisashvili.

On September 24, at Winery №1 screening of the film "Lost in the vine" by Ketevan Sadgobelashvili is planned.

On September 25-26, the Georgian Sommelier Association will hold the first and second round of the third National Competition of Georgian wine, the winners of which will be revealed on 2 October.

On September 28, in the cellars of the Winery №1 the Wine Club of Georgia will present an event called "New small cellars on the big stage".

After September 29 Georgian wines will move in Kvemo Kartli, wherean exhibition and tasting of Georgian wines will be held in Marneuli.

On September 30, at National Library the Wine Club will hold a presentation of  "Georgian Wine Guide 2016". On the same day in Telavi traditional wine festival "Telavino" will take place.

On October 1st from 8 am to 11 pm many educational activities for students are planned, including visits to the best small cellar in the region of Kakheti. Meeting place is Roses Square roses. Day program includes wine tasting, visits to cellars and vineyards, meetings with winemakers, contests, etc. There will also be a lecture on the Georgian vine varieties. At the end of the day, students will visit the family cellar in Kardanakhi.

On October 2 in the Park Rike products 25 of Georgian wine companies will be presented. In the Erekle II Street, local coffee bars will offer to taste Georgian wines and food. After that, the Georgian Sommelier Association will hold a ceremony of awarding the winners of the Third National Competition of Georgian wine.

The permanent partners of the event are Georgian Wine Association, Kakheti Wine Makers Guild, Wine Club, Wine Tourism Association and Georgian Sommelier Association.
