Russia's watchdog "strictly warns" Georgian companies

25.06.2013 (Hvino News) Russia’s Sanitary Service will take strict measures if counterfeited or substandard wine or mineral water from Georgia is revealed in  the Russian market, said Gennady Onishchenko, head of the watchdog agency Rospotrebnadzor, adding: "I hope it will not happen."

"But everyone remembers the situation due to which we took radical measures several years ago. If this situation persists, our steps will be even tougher, "- said the Chief Sanitary Doctor.

Russia banned wine and mineral water deliveries from Georgia in 2006 over quality complaints. At the beginning of February Russia and Georgia worked out a mechanism of returning Georgian commodities to the Russian market which implied visits of Russian sanitation officials to Georgia and the registration commodities in Russia.

Export of wine, spirits and mineral water from Georgia to Russia has been restored. The first batch of Borjomi mineral water was sent to Russian market in May, while this month  wine is expected to appear in  Russian retail networks.
