Georgian wine in Strasbourg - "Capital of Christmas"

25.11.2012 (Hvino News) This year Georgia is the "Guest of Honour" at Strasbourg Christmas Market, which opened on November 24 in France. Founded in 1570, Strasbourg Christmas Market is the world's most famous one thanks to its size and location in the capital of Europe. Georgia's Minister of Culture Guram Odisharia and First Deputy Minister Alexander Margishvili attended the opening  ceremony.

Georgian wine is presented in the "Georgian Village", which is set up at Place Gutenberg, in the city centre. All the regions of Georgia are represented, as well as Georgian products, traditional dishes and clothing. Georgian Christmas Village will be open from 24th November to 23rd December.

The organizer of the "Georgian Village" is Georgian Product Ltd.

A programme of cultural and artistic events gives the opportunity to immerse in Georgian customs through traditional songs, folk dances and activities for children. The programme will include performance of Georgia National Ballet "Sukhishvilebi" (Place Kléber), Exhibition on Georgia (parc de l'Étoile), Georgian Film Festival (Odyssée Cinema, 3 rue des Francs Bourgeois), as well as ensembles "Rustavi", "Lashari", pianist Khatia Buniatishvili, jazzman Beka Gochiashvili, singer Tamta Tskvitava.

For the first time Georgia has a chance to present its original culture in the market. Strasbourg's municipality made a choice between Georgia and Japan. Vice Mayor of Strasbourg Nawel Rafik said that when choosing guests of the Christmas market the Mayor's Office takes into consideration level of democracy and human rights in the country. “Respect of common European values is also important,” he said.

Tradition of Christmas market in Strasbourg has about a 450-year-long history. The first Christmas market in Strasbourg was organized in 1570. Every year various countries are invited to participate in the market. The number of tourists has exceeded 3 millions in Strasbourg last year due to the Christmas market.

Hvino News also has its own little Christmas Market and offers Christmas sale for partners: two ad banners for the price of one (see here). Happy Holidays!
