Right to use the wine names "Khvanchkara", "Tvishi", "Akhasheni", "Tsinandali", "Mukuzani" and "Kindzmarauli" on the territory of the Russian Federation is assigned to the National Wine Agency of the Ministry of Agriculture of Georgia. The application for registration to Rospatent was filed on June 18, 2013.
The registration period of six wine names in the national registry of origin-controlled names is until June 18, 2023.
"Protection in the Russian Federation of the place of origin of goods will contribute to the fight against illegal use of names of famous Georgian wines," — reads the information published by Sakpatenti.
Russia is still considered the largest consumer of Georgian wine, in 2016 wine exports to that country increased by 154% compared to last year.
