Georgian food and wine festival in Jakarta

19.05.2014. A week-long festival showcasing traditional Georgian culinary delights in the capital of Indonesia has come to an end.

Today was the last day of the Georgian Food Festival Week, which opened in Jakarta on May 12.

To coincide with a month of celebrations, the Georgian Embassy to the Republic of Indonesia held a seven-day Georgian Food Festival.

A famous Georgian chef from the Georgian culinary show "Gurmani” was invited to take part in the celebration to ensure Indonesian guests got a taste of true Georgian flavours.

The opening ceremony was held at Fiesta restaurant inside Hotel Sari San Pacific and saw Georgian food and drink served to an array of guests, who listened to the smooth tunes of Iriao, a Georgian ethno-jazz band, as they ate traditional Georgian food.

The Ambassador of Georgia made a short speech at the beginning of the event and mentioned the importance of spreading awareness of Georgian cuisine, music and wine in Indonesia and further abroad.

For the duration of the culinary festival, Georgian food was included in the restaurant’s menu. Traditional Georgian dishes, a variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages and performances showing Georgia’s unique musical and performance talents were highly praised by the festival guests.

A corner of the hotel restaurant was dedicated to displaying traditional Georgian souvenirs, photos of the country’s landscape and products of local brewing company Zedazeni.

The event was attended by representatives of diplomatic corps, Indonesian wine experts, honorary guests of local governmental institutions and the media.
